I am often asked for recommendations and want share what I use in my own mouth and for my family:

Toothbrush:  Sonic toothbrushes.  The Sonicare models run for the recommended 2 minutes of brushing time and ensures we reach all the surfaces of the teeth with it's quad-pacer (pauses every 30 seconds indicating it's time to move to the next of the 4 mouth quadrants).  There are versions for adult and kids.   The vibration can take time to get used to, but once you do it's amazing how clean your teeth feel.

Xyla-mints: One of my patients introduced me to these mints.  Xylitol is natural product that has been shown to have positive oral health benefits, as well as having fewing calories and carbohydrates than sugar.  This particular product is made in the USA, GMO Free, Gluten-free, dairy-free, casein-free, egg, soy, nut-free.  100% Vegan. It is an ideal mint for anyone seeking a healthier lifestyle and mouth.  There are many gums and toothpastes on the market that now contain xylitol.   If you can incorporate xylitol into your daily routine in any dose, there are healthy benefits.

Floss alternatives:  In my own mouth, I use thick, braided floss and complete the recommended C-shapped hugging of each tooth.  However, I recognize this does not work well on my toddlers or for some patients.  For patients with tight spaces or larger spaces between their teeth there are alternatives to the traditional string.  These alternatives clean between the teeth effectively.  Some I routinely  use are go-betweens by GUM , the doctor's brushpicks,  and floss-picks which I use nightly on the twins.  Remember that the purpose of interdental cleaning is to reach the surfaces that the toothbrush doesn't.
